Position Description:

Springfield College, a historic and dynamic institution in Springfield, Massachusetts, seeks a new Dean to lead its School of Health Sciences & Rehabilitation Studies. The Dean will work with an energetic new Provost, and oversee academic areas including physical and occupational therapy, physician assistant, health science, emergency medical services management, communication disorders, and rehabilitation counseling and disability studies. Approximately 40 faculty and 10 staff report to the Dean, and the School enjoys an enrollment of approximately 650 students. The Dean assures the quality of programming in line with student needs, institutional mission, and the requirements of applicable accreditation bodies, evaluates programmatic needs, manages resource allocation, scheduling, and planning for the School, and collaborates with leadership of other divisions and units of the College to participate in strategic planning and implementation activities that further the overall mission of the institution. Close working relationships with peer deans, enrollment management, student services, advancement, and other divisions of the institution will be integral to the Dean’s functioning. Founded in 1885, and designated a “Best College” for six consecutive years in the top tier of U. S. Position Qualifications:

Joining a strong and enthusiastic team of academic leaders, the new Dean will be a seasoned higher education professional with experience hiring, supervising, developing, and evaluating faculty and departmental staff, understanding and balancing the strengths and needs of diverse academic and professional disciplines, participating in the development of, and working within, budgetary and strategic parameters, understanding both classroom and distance teaching methodologies, and partnering with the rest of the academic team to fulfill the educational mission of Springfield College. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, a passion for the educational enterprise, and a personal appreciation for the institution’s core philosophy. A collaborative and team-oriented approach to leadership is a must, as is a student-centered mind-set. The new Dean will exhibit an entrepreneurial spirit with a taste for innovation in the creation, organization, and delivery of academic programming. A terminal academic degree is required, and a demonstrable history of academic leadership at the chair, associate dean, or higher level is strongly preferred.
